International Flute Competition "Domenico Cimarosa"

Rule

The "Domenico Cimarosa" International Flute Contest, held every two years, will take place in Aversa, Italy (the hometown of the famed Italian composer), 1 through 3 December 2011. Application is limited to flutists of any nationality born after 31 December 1964, and the contest is composed of three rounds:

- QUALIFYING ROUND for solo flute;
- SEMIFINALS featuring accompaniment on piano;
- FINAL in the form of a Concert featuring a Piano and prizewinner a full Orchestra.

Applications will be accepted until 4 November 2011 (mailing stamp will be held as proof).
Applications must be mailed to the Contest Board, and will include the following:

1) Applicant's résumé;
2) List of selected compositions;
3) Two passport-size photos;
4) Copy of an identification document of the flutist;
5) Copy of payment of Euro 87,00 (non refundable) as enrolment fee,
    by means of cashier's cheque made out to:

Incomplete applications will be discarded.

Applicants will need to show, with proper Identification, at the event venue, “Auditorium Bianca D'aponte ” located at Via Nobel, 2 (palace Pirolo) (Aversa, Italy), on December 1, 2011 at 9:30 am, in order to be included in the drawing for the performance order. Applicants selected for the semifinals may be accompanied by the pianist provided by the Contest Board. Each applicant may spend up to 20 minutes with the pianist in order to agree on the composition to play. However, it will be possible for applicants to be accompanied by a pianist of their own choice (no fees for the Contest Board will be applicable), and that option will need to be specified on the initial application form. All performances will be open to the public; the final performance will be held as a public concert on 3 December 2011 at 3:00pm at "Auditorium Bianca D'Aponte" in Aversa, Italy. The winner will play at a public concert on 3 December 2011 at 9:00pm at the "Teatro Cimarosa" (Piazza principe amedeo) in Aversa, Italy. The judgement of the Panel is final. The Panel reserves the right not to bestow any award in case performance by all applicants is deemed as artistically unsatisfactory. In case of any controversy, the only valid rules will be those written in Italian. The court of jurisdiction for any litigation will be the Law Courts of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, Italy.

Solo flute (two mandatory compositions)

1. S. Mercadante: Dieci Arie Variate (any one out of ten)
2. J. S. Bach: from the Partita in A minor Sarabande
and Bourée anglaise
– with ornate repetitions

SEMIFINAL
Flute and Piano (any one of the following compositions)
1. P. Sancan: Sonatine
2. H. Dutilleux: Sonatine
3. F. Martin: Ballade

 

FINAL
3 December 2011 at 3:00pm at "Auditorium Bianca D'Aponte"
Flute and Piano (choose one of the following):

1. C.P.E. Bach: Concerto in G major Wq. 169
2. S. Mercadante: Concerto in E minor
CONCERT AND AWARD
Public concert by the winner, 3 December 2011 at 9:00pm at
"Teatro Cimarosa "

Flute and Orchestra (choose one of the following):
1. C.P.E. Bach: Concert in G major Wq. 169
2. S. Mercadante: Concert in E minor
